Will Eubank faces a huge challenge with his first head varsity basketball coaching job.

Eubank has been named the new girls’ basketball coach at Rock Creek Academy. Eubank replaces Brandon Yates, who recently resigned to pursue other teaching opportunities.

The Lions have compiled a combined record of 2-81 the past four seasons, including winless campaigns in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

“I think it’s an opportunity for myself and an opportunity for me to take a program and build it from the ground up,” Eubank said. “I think it’s a challenge I’m willing to take on.”

Eubank says although the veteran players he inherits have not had much success the past few seasons, he says those players know what playing at the varsity level is like.

“There are some we can work with,” Eubank said. “The girls with some experience know about the speed of the game and the pressures of the game.”

Eubank was the junior varsity coach last season for the Eastern girls’ team. He also was the JV girls’ coach at Silver Creek for a couple of seasons under former girls’ coach Ryan Apple. Eubank also has coached at East Washington Middle School and for the Team Southern Indiana AAU program.

“Coach Eubank comes to us with a lot of knowledge of the game,” Rock Creek athletic director Chris Brown said. “He wants the challenge and the opportunity. He’s got our full support and he understands the situation we’ve been in.”
