IU Southeast freshman Chas Adams starred at Floyd Central. He has a 2.55 ERA so far this season for the Grenadiers and ranks 16th in NAIA in opponents batting average at .179.

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO — Chas Adams and Jacob Frankel combined for a one-hitter as the IU Southeast baseball team blanked Asbury (Ky.) 9-0 Friday in an elimination game of the River States Conference Tournament.

Adams, a former Floyd Central standout, walked two and struck out eight in seven no-hit innings. Frankel gave up the Eagles' only hit — in the top of the ninth — while walking one and striking out two.

Asbury's Colton Back broke up the Grenadiers' combined no-hit bid with a one-out double in the top of the ninth. He was thrown out at third on the play, though, trying to stretch his hit to a triple.

Top-seeded IUS, which lost its opening RSC Tournament game 7-3 to Midway (Ky.) on Thursday, scored the only run it would need Friday in the bottom of the second inning. That's when Derek Wagner led off with a single, moved to second when Jordan Branz was walked, took third on Tyler Mills' sacrifice before scoring on a wild pitch.

Wagner led the Grenadiers' 11-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Brody Tanksley added a pair of hits.

IUS (35-17) will face fourth-seeded Rio Grande at 3 p.m. Saturday in another elimination game. The Grenadiers have already clinched a berth in the NAIA national tourney after winning the RSC regular-season title.

The RSC final is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday.
