VIENNA, W.V. — IU Southeast won its first game, but lost its second in the River States Conference Tournament on Friday.
The second-seeded Grenadiers beat Point Park (Pa.) 8-3 in their first game before losing 13-0 in five innings to No. 1 seed Rio Grande (Ohio) at Jackson Memorial Park.
IUS (29-24) will play the winner between third-seeded Point Park (Pa.) and fourth-seeded Midway (Ky.) at 11 a.m. in the losers’ bracket final Saturday morning. If the Grenadiers win, they’ll earn the RSC’s second automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament because Rio Grande earned the first as the league’s regular-season champ.
In their first game Friday, the Grenadiers plated three runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings en route to victory.
Kyndyl Olds went 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs while Becca Schoenung had a pair of hits and scored a run. Meanwhile, Lindsey Keen and Baylee Krueger had two RBIs each.
Emily Weiss earned the victory in the circle. The senior right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits.
