NEW ALBANY — New Albany Little League will host a celebration of its three state championship teams, as well as a send-off for the Major Division champ as it leaves for the Great Lakes Regional, Saturday morning at Baptist Health Fields.
The three title teams — Minor Division (8- to 10-year-olds), 11-and-under division and Major Division (11- and 12-year-olds) — will be on hand to display their state championship banners at the park at 9 a.m. at 4410 Lewis Endres Parkway, behind Northside Christian Church on Charlestown Road.
Afterward, the New Albany Fire Department will escort the Major Division champs as they begin their journey to the Little League Baseball Great Lakes Regional, which begins Sunday in Westfield.
New Albany will face St. Matthews, the Kentucky state champion, at 8 p.m. Sunday night at the Grand Park Sports Complex.
The state champions from Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin will compete in a double-elimination tournament that concludes with the final, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 11 and will be telecast on ESPN.
The winner of the regional advances to the Little League Baseball World Series, which is scheduled for Aug. 16-26 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
