NEW ALBANY — Play gets underway today in the 10U State Tournament at New Albany Little League’s Baptist Health Fields.

The 10-team tourney begins with pool play at 3 p.m. this afternoon.

The opening ceremonies — which will include the team parade with banners, the Little League pledge, the national anthem and the ceremonial first pitch — will take place at 7 p.m. tonight.

“We’re excited,” NALL league president Justin Endres said. “Our teams have done well in the Little League tournaments — I think it’s nine years in a row we’ve won a state title in the 10, 11 or 12 [-year-old] division — and it’s a fun time for the families and the kids and the communities.”

Pool play ends Saturday with tournament play slated for Sunday. The semifinals are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday with the final to follow around 5 p.m.

District 5 champion Jeff/GRC will face Bedford at 5:30 p.m. today in its first game. Jeff/GRC will take on Lebanon at 8 p.m. Friday and New Castle at 11 a.m. Saturday.

It’s the second straight year the park, which opened in 2018, has hosted a Little League state tournament following the softball state tourney last year.

The park will also be hosting a softball tournament this weekend, too, so six of the seven fields will be in use.
