JEFFERSONVILLE — A seven-run first inning helped the Jeff/GRC 10U All-Star baseball team to a 19-9 win over Highlander Youth Recreation on Friday night as it remained perfect in District 5 pool play at Jeff/GRC.
Jeff/GRC added two more runs in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth before ending the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Carter Durbin and Trevon Mitchell led Jeff/GRC at the plate with three hits apiece.
Durbin had a pair of singles and a double while scoring three runs — including the game-ender.
Mitchell, meanwhile, had a single and a pair of triples.
Aiden Toler added a home run in the third for Jeff/GRC, which finishes up pool play against Charlestown at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
HYR (1-1) is back in action at 5:30 p.m. Monday, when it faces Charlestown.
2 NEW ALBANY PITCHERS HOLD HYR TO 1 HIT
A pair of New Albany 12U pitchers combined for a one-hitter in a 16-0 four-inning win over HYR.
Bryson Whitlock allowed one hit while walking two and striking out five in three innings to earn the win. Blaine Beckort walked one and struck out two in the fourth, and final, frame.
At the plate, Whitlock and Lincoln Kruer led New Albany with two hits apiece. Whitlock went 2-for-2 with a single and double and one RBI. He also walked twice and scored two runs. Kruer, meanwhile, went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Trevor Unruh went 1-for-1 with two RBIs while scoring three runs for New Albany, which improved to 2-0 in pool play. It faces Silver Creek at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
HYR (1-1) is back in action against Jeff/GRC at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
SHULTZ STRIKES OUT 14 IN HYR WIN
Adeline Shultz struck out 14 for Floyds Knobs Community Club as it clinched the No. 1 seed in next week’s 10U softball tournament with a 10-1 win over Silver Creek. Shultz also helped her own cause, scoring three runs for Floyds Knobs, which improved to 3-0.
In the opener, Charlestown’s 12-run first inning propelled it to a 16-1 win over Jeff/GRC.
Charlestown (1-1) will face Clarksville at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Jeff/GRC and New Albany will face off in Monday night’s second game at approximately 8 p.m.
