JEFFERSONVILLE — New Albany stayed in the driver’s seat in the 12U District 5 Tournament, pulling away for a 17-1 victory against Silver Creek on Tuesday in a five-inning game at Jeff/GRC Little League.

Bryson Whitlock hit three home runs, giving him five for New Albany, which improved 3-0 in pool play and can clinch the top seed in single-elimination tournament play with a win today.

"That's the first time I ever had three home runs [in a game]," Whitlock said. "It felt good giving us momentum to win the game. I'm excited for the rest of it."

Also for New Albany, Kadin Bush was 2 for 4 and Trevor Unruh had a double and two singles while Rylan Schrink added a double.

"He's swinging it well, he's seeing it well," New Albany coach Justin Elliott said of Whitlock. "We swung it well today and I know that they have another pitcher over there that they're saving for us. If we are to see them again [in the tournament]."

Elliott is referring to hard-throwing Preston Burton, who played infield for Silver Creek, which could clinch the No. 2 seed with a win today.

Ross Jackson had a first-inning single for Silver Creek's only hit.

HYR 12U TOPS JEFF/GRC

Hunter Tinsley had a double and Carter Williams a single for Jeff/GRC but HYR rolled to the 12-1 victory in Tuesday's nightcap.

Will Zurschmiede went 2 for 4 with a double for HYR. Kajust Davis went 2 for 3 while Evan Loftus had a single, walk and two runs scored and Noah Tilton added a single and a sacrifice fly RBI.

FLOYDS KNOBS 12U SOFTBALL WINS TWO

The Floyds Knobs 12U softball team won 15-0 vs. Jeff/GRC and 16-0 vs. Charlestown to open pool play.

Peyton Drummond had a single and triple in the first inning against Charlestown and scored twice in the nine-run frame. Also in that inning, Elliott Nance had a home run and Kaylee Walters a double.

JEFF/GRC, SILVER CREEK GET 10U WINS

Jeff/GRC finished off the pool-play round in the 10U bracket with a 16-1 win against Charlestown. It will be the top seed in the single-elimination tournament play, facing HYR on Friday.

Silver Creek, a 10-2 winner against HYR, will face New Albany in Friday's other semifinal.
