JEFFERSONVILLE — New Albany stayed in the driver’s seat in the 12U District 5 Tournament, pulling away for a 17-1 victory against Silver Creek on Tuesday in a five-inning game at Jeff/GRC Little League.

Bryson Whitlock hit three home runs, giving him five for New Albany, which improved 3-0 in pool play and can clinch the top seed in single-elimination tournament play with a win today.

"That's the first time I ever had three home runs [in a game]," Whitlock said. "It felt good giving us momentum to win the game. I'm excited for the rest of it."

Also for New Albany, Kadin Bush was 2 for 4 and Trevor Unruh had a double and two singles while Rylan Schrink added a double.

"He's swinging it well, he's seeing it well," New Albany coach Justin Elliott said of Whitlock. "We swung it well today and I know that they have another pitcher over there that they're saving for us. If we are to see them again [in the tournament]."

Elliott is referring to hard-throwing Preston Burton, who played infield for Silver Creek, which could clinch the No. 2 seed with a win today.

Ross Jackson had a first-inning single for Silver Creek's only hit.
