Charlestown finished second and Jeffersonville placed third in a triangular girls’ golf meet Monday on the Links Nine golf course at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Sellersburg.

The Pirates shot a 209, while the Red Devils fired a 255. Scottsburg won the meet with a 188.

April Scott, Paige Jones and Laurel Clapp each led Charlestown with a 50. Jamie McQuillian rounded out the Pirates’ scoring with a 64.

“We have had three matches and each match we have improved our team score,” Charlestown coach Kim Carroll said. “April, Paige and Laurel shot well today. All of them are capable of shooting 40s and will get there as the season goes on. I have a couple of players who are young and inexperienced and will improve the more they play and practice.”

Amber Pangburn paced Jeff with a 61, followed by Ashley Vandgrift with a 64. Teammates Andrea Newcom and Rachel Clemons each carded a 65.

“This is a definite rebuilding year with our top five graduating,” Red Devils coach Lisa Stemler said. “Our lineup today had two girls with very limited golf experience from last year. We’re young and inexperienced, but I think the potential is there to bring our scores down. Time will tell.”

Charlestown will host Clarksville and New Albany at Links Nine Thursday.
