Providence senior Courtney Glotzbach and junior Ali Hornung were among 14 players in Class 4A named first-team All-State by the Indiana Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday and Silver Creek senior Macie Garrison received the same honor in Class 3A.

AMHERST, Mass. — Massachusetts freshman, and former New Albany standout, Sean East tallied 17 points, seven assists and four steals while also hitting a three-quarter-court shot at the end of the first half to spark the Minutemen to an 80-71 win over Northeastern on Tuesday.

NEW ALBANY — Freshman Emily Cissell scored a game-high 16 points to lead visiting Borden to a 41-36 win over Christian Academy in the Warriors' season-opener Tuesday night. 

JEFFERSONVILLE — Nan Garcia put on the quintessential performance in efficiency Friday night in Jeffersonville’s girls’ basketball home opener, pouring in 37 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field and 12-of-13 accuracy at the free-throw line.

CLARKSVILLE — The Providence Pioneers stood toe-to-toe with visiting Triton Central for three quarters in Friday night’s Class 2A Sectional 39 championship game at Murphy Stadium, but the Tigers scored 20 unanswered points to notch the 20-0 shutout.

AUSTIN — Despite losing one starter just a few minutes before tipoff, and having another one slowed by injury, Jeffersonville rolled to a 67-37 win at Austin in its season-opener Wednesday night.

Three area teams will play for sectional titles Friday night. Two of those will play each other, and one of those will win their first sectional championship in at least a decade.
